United States President Donald Trump said on Tuesday, 1, “doubting” that the country will close a trade agreement with Japan and signaled that it can impose a tariff of up to 35% on Asian island island products.
In conversation with reporters aboard the presidential plane, the Republican recognized the “great relationship” with the Japanese, but accused Tokyo and other countries of being “spoiled” after decades taking advantage of Americans. According to him, it is very difficult to negotiate with Japan in the commercial area.
“I’m going to write a letter to him saying, ‘Thank you, we know you can’t do the kind of thing we need, so you pay 30%, 35%, or whatever the number,'” the Republican said, in reference to Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.
