The US president said today that Washington is pressing for a truce between the Gaza Strip “within the next week”.
Speaking to reporters before his departure for Florida, where he is scheduled to visit a new detention center of irregular migrants, Trump was asked if a truce could be achieved in the Palestinian enclave until the Israeli Prime Minister’s visit to the US Prime Minister.
“We hope this will happen, and we hope it will be done next week,” he replied.
The quick way that a truce agreement was reached between Israel and Iran last week, ending the 12 -day war between these two countries, rekindled the hopes of ending battles in the Gaza Strip, where more than 20 months of war have created destructive humanitarian conditions.
The US president had already stated on Friday that a truce between Israel and Hamas is “near”.
However, in the field, the battles continue to rage between the Israeli army and the Palestinian armed groups.
Israel has announced that it has expanded its attack on the Gaza Strip, where young Israeli bombings left 17 dead today, according to Palestinian emergency services.
