WASHINGTON (Reuters)-US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he was not thinking of extending July 9 so that countries negotiated trade agreements with the US, and continued to express doubts that an agreement could be reached with Japan.
“We have already negotiated with Japan. I’m not sure we will make a deal,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One when returning to Washington from a Florida trip.
Trump suggested that he could impose a rate of “30% or 35% or whatever number we determine” about the imports of Japan – well above the 24% tariff he announced on April 2 and then suspended.
