Periodic watering of plants is an important condition when maintaining your garden in the summer. Unfortunately, the frequently occurring heat means that our plants can remain without the required amount of moisture. This means only one thing: the plants need to be watered manually.
However, in the summer, many do not have the opportunity to travel to the garden every day. What to do? The answer is simple: Create a watering system from plastic bottles with your own hands. Most importantly, this method is suitable not only for garden plants but also for indoor.
How to create passive planting of plants?
You will need:
- plastic bottles
- aluminum foil
- cotton fabric or thread
Take two plastic bottles: 2 and 1.5 liters. Measure 10 cm from the bottom of 2 liters, then use a knife or scissor to cut this part. Press the cut bottom to the ground to prevent the wind from blowing it.
Place a 1.5 -liter bottle to the bottom. Mark the bottom level of the 2 -liter bottle on it. Cut a hole of about 1 square centimeter, 2 cm below the drawn line.
To ensure that the water is evenly flowing, we will use the capillary properties of the materials. To do this, take a foil sheet and a wet strip of cotton fabric. Wrap the fabric with foil. Place the resulting nozzle to the bottom of the 2 -liter bottle and fold.
Then, covering the hole with your finger, fill the 1.5 -liter bottle with water and install it to the bottom of the 2 liters. Carefully remove the tube from which the water will gradually drop, to the watering point. Within 10 minutes, the water from the bottle completely fills the larger bottom, watering will be started. Watering intensity can be adjusted by stronger rotation of the foil tube.
A 1.5 -liter water bottle may be enough from one to four weeks. You can set the watering pace by adjusting the tube area and measuring the water flow speed. To pass the passive watering of plants from a plastic bottle all week, one drop must get to the ground every 25 seconds. If you want to create a system for four weeks, the interval between drops should be 2 minutes.
In this way, you can create a great watering system not only for your garden beds, but also for houseplants. Now you can go on vacation calmly.
In addition, this passive watering system helps to save water and protect plants from removal, which often causes root rot or disease. It is especially useful for traveling or living in a city when it is not possible to visit the garden frequently. In this way, the plants get a constant but small amount of water, which are much more useful to them than irregular and abundant watering. It is a great solution for both beginner gardeners and experienced growers who want to provide healthy plant growth without much effort.
