The distribution of aid in the Gaza Strip, which is provided by the United States and Israel, supported by the Humanitarian Foundation for Gaza (GHF), is, according to Sky News analysis published on Thursday, associated with a significant increase in death in this war -destroyed Palestinian enclave, writes TASR.
The Foundation has been criticized since the beginning of its functioning, the GHF chief rejects the accusations
GHF distributes aid approximately from the end of May after Israel has picked up a 11 -week aid blockade. This organization distributes assistance in four places in the Gaza Strip, three of the south of the Palestinian territory. This aid system has faced criticism from the very beginning and the UN or other large humanitarian groups have refused to cooperate with GHF. During the previous system, the UN distributed assistance through hundreds of cities throughout the territory.
The Gazan Ministry of Health claims that a total of 600 Palestinians died near the GHF distribution centers in an effort to get help.
GHF chief Johnnie Moore questioned that these deaths were related to the foundation operations. “Almost everything that happens in the Gaza band will happen near something,” he says. “Our efforts really work despite a misinformation campaign that is very deliberate and aims to stop our efforts,” Moore said. He added that GHF “just wants to feed Gazanov”.
Sky News Analysis: The number of deaths has risen with a larger number of GHF distributions
However, the new Sky News analysis shows that the number of deaths in the Gaza band has risen on days with a larger number of GHF distributions. During the days when the GHFs perform two or fewer distributions, medical officials report on average 48 deaths and 189 injuries in the enclave. At five or six distributions, the authorities report almost three times more victims per day.
Sky News claims that of the 77 GHF distributions between June 5 and 1 July, 23 of them (30 percent) ended up with reports of incidents that claimed victims. In one of the cities in the central part of the Gaza Strip, the victims of the shooting of Israeli troops reported only at half of all distributions. One of the incidents with the largest number of victims (31) is recorded from 24 June. According to eyewitnesses, Israeli forces have triggered fire on people approaching food trucks.
The problem is distribution, communication or distance between the waiting place and the place of assistance
Representative of the UN Agency for helping the Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) Sam Rose described the current distribution process as uncontrollable. “They do it by placing the boxes on the ground, and people then flock in,” he said.
Sky News Analysis suggests that poor GHF communication can also contribute to the problem. The group announced 86 percent of the distributions between 19 June and 1 July less than 30 minutes before their start. Each fifth distribution was not announced at all before opening the location.
Roads towards distribution points, which GHF recommends Palestinians, is also a problem. One map states that the Palestinians are to go a narrow agricultural route that no longer exists, while the other are waiting for the waiting places to be deep inside the combat zones. The maps are not clearly marked the boundaries of combat zones and it is not determined when it is safe for Palestinians to enter them.
Another problem is the distance between the waiting place and the help of helping, usually more than a kilometer. Many Palestinians will not be able to reach foods that usually pass within nine minutes of opening the distribution center.
