The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSD), said on Thursday (3) that the discussion about an eventual amnesty to former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is legitimate, but depends on the progress of the trial in the Supreme Court (STF). The statement was given during participation in the Lisbon Forum.
“I understand that the issue can be discussed, but it is necessary to respect the judicial rites. The trial was not closed about the crimes that you have committed.
The governor pointed out that he trusts the work of the court and criticized the change of position of Bolsonaro allies, who today attack the judiciary.

“It is curious that now who questions the work of the judiciary are those who were just applauding when it meant the arrest of his opponent,” he said, in reference to the trial of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).
Leite also argued that the country needs to overcome the impasse between Lulism and Bolsonarism. For him, national policy is stagnant around a dispute between two names that have already fulfilled their cycles.
“What are we discussing in the election at this time in Brazil? The possibility of reelection of President Lula. On the other hand, what some seek alternative is the former president, who is ineligible, who competed once, was elected, tried the reelection, failed and is ineligible,” he said.

For the governor, the scenario requires a new project. “The country needs to overcome this. I think there is a generational issue in Brazilian politics that really needs to evolve. It is not just discussing Lula or Bolsonaro, is discussing Brazil. The country has huge challenges, has crisis in public accounts, has social and economic challenges that remain,” he concluded.
