On the hottest day of this year so far, with temperatures above 35 degrees, up to 40. The “Bettina” wave will follow mainly to the west and southeast.
The highest temperature so far was 38.3 degrees Celsius and was recorded in Anderneach, Rhine-Palatinatou, but in most of the country there are temperatures above 34 degrees.
High temperatures have so far affected the railway traffic to a limited degree, while in Lower Saxony the central highway roadway has suffered serious heat damage, resulting in high delays in car traffic. Two fires were raging last night in forest areas of Brandenburg, which have been controlled but demanding the continued presence of firefighters.
Throughout the country, high temperatures are taken, with the operation of air -conditioned areas, even churches, the cancellation of external work and activities and the restriction of school operations. Authorities call for the most vulnerable people to remain in air -conditioned or cool areas and to avoid intense physical activity and thousands of citizens are looking for dew in parks, lakes and public baths.
The heat wave is expected to gradually retreat from the night, but areas of North Rhine -Westphalia are already affected by heavy rainfall and winds reaching 95 km/h.
Two dead in Sardinia
Two men, aged 75 and 60, died today in Sardinia due to the heat wave, with temperatures on this Italian island exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.
The victims had gone to the resorts as Teodorus and Boudon and, according to eyewitnesses, while sunbathing they had a heart attack. Immediate medical assistance was provided in both cases but, unfortunately, no results.
Since the beginning of the week another four people died in Italy because of the heat and floods caused by sudden rainfall.
