An UN expert asks countries to cut their commercial ties with Israel for their offensive in Gaza
The United Nations special rapporteur, Francesca Albanese, has asked the member countries of the organization to finish their commercial agreements with Israel for its “genocidal campaign” in the Gaza Strip.
In a speech before the UN Human Rights Council, Albanese has presented his most recent report on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and has accused Israel of being carrying out “one of the most cruel genocides in modern history.”
Albanese, who has described the situation in Gaza as “apocalyptic”, has also criticized the new model of humanitarian aid distribution in the Strip, whereby a private entity created and managed by the US and Israel is responsible for the distribution of food, instead of the various United Nations organizations. The special rapporteur has branded the new model, inaugurated on May 27. Since that day, 640 people have died at help distribution points in attacks attributed to Israel.
Last week, the Israeli media Haartez He revealed that high commanders of the army explicitly order soldiers to shoot against people who meet to claim food. The system has also been repeatedly questioned and criticized by the UN. (Reuters)
