Liverpool striker Diogo Jota dies in a car accident

Diogo Jota, Liverpool and Portuguese team striker, died in a car accident in Spain on Thursday (3). The information was confirmed by the Portuguese team.

According to the Zamora Fire Department, 250 kilometers from the capital Madrid, the 28 -year -old was accompanied by his 26 -year -old brother who also died at the scene.

According to witnesses, after the accident near the city of Palacos de Sanabria, the vehicle caught fire.

He offered him support to the family and fans, explained that he is “devastated by the tragic death” and will no longer comment to respect a moment of “privacy.”

Jota and his brother were Porto’s base athletes. The local club regretted what happened. “We sent the senses condolences to family and friends,” they said on Instagram.

Diogo Jota was married and father of three children.

Who was Diogo Jota?

Born in 1996 in Porto, Diogo Jota was revealed by Paços de Ferreira. Between 2016 and 2018, he acted for Atletico Madrid, from Spain. From 2018 to 2020, he played at Wolverhampton.

The striker debuted at Liverpool in the 2020/21 season where he won an English championship, a England Cup and two league cups.

For the Portuguese team, Jota was in 50 calls and scored 14 goals. The striker participated in the UEFA Nations League champions cast in 2019 and 2025 and played the 2021 and 2025 editions of Euro.

Much more than the fantastic player, with almost 50 internationalizations for the National Team A, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all colleagues and opponents, someone with contagious joy and reference in the community itself.

The Portuguese Football Federation expresses the most felt condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and André Silva, as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where, respectively, aligned the players.

The Portuguese Football Federation has already requested UEFA a minute of silence, this Thursday, before the departure of our team with Spain, in the women’s European.

We lost two champions. The disappearance of Diogo and André Silva represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football and we will do everything to honor their legacy daily.
