Petista assumes presidency of the bloc and says that technological development, combat organized crime and promotion of rights will also be among the main topics
(PT) takes office as temporary president of Mercosur this Thursday (3.Jul.2025). It will be until December, when it expects to complete the Mercosur-UE agreement. During the opening of the 66th summit of the bloc, the Brazilian executive chief listed 5 pillars that will be the priority of his leadership.
The 1st will be the strengthening trade between South American countries and external partners. Lula says there are still borders to overcome, “As the inclusion of the automotive and sugar sectors in our customs union”. Lula also defends a unified payment system in local currencies to facilitate digital transactions.
The 2nd point concerns climate change of climate and the promotion of energy transition. Mentioned that the southern cone suffers from droughts and floods that move more “Fast that the Paris Agreement, exposing the fallacy of climate negationism”.
In item 3, the petista talks about technological development. In April, Brazil and Chile 13 bilateral agreements.
