The president of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proença, considers that Portuguese football is “devastated” with the death of Luso Diogo Jota and brother André Silva in an accident in Spain.
“Much more than the fantastic player, with almost 50 internationalizations for the National Team A, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, respected by all colleagues and opponents, someone with contagious joy and reference in the community itself.” referred to the leader.
Pedro Proença expressed condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota, 28, and André Silva, 26 and who was also a footballer, as well as to the clubs they both represented, Liverpool and Penafiel respectively.
“We lost two champions. The disappearance of Diogo and André Silva represent irreparable losses for Portuguese football and we will do everything to honor their legacy daily,” underlined Pedro Proença.
Luso’s top leader added that the FPF has already asked UEFA to respect today a minute of silence to precede the game between Portugal and Spain, in the inaugural journey of the women’s football European.
