Sean “Diddy” Combs returns to Brooklyn’s arrest while awaiting sentence

Combs, 55, has been detained at the Metropolitan Center of Detention (MDC) since his arrest in September 2024. Last August, another judge said he would convert the penalty of nine months in prison of an older defendant in house arrest if he were sent to the MDC, citing the “dangerous and barbaric conditions” of the arrest.

The US prison department, which operates the MDC, said in a statement that it was committed to “intensive efforts to improve the conditions of the Brooklyn MDC.” The agency said it confiscated drugs, weapons and other smuggling during a several days in prison in October and November.

During the eight-week trial, federal agents carried Combs from and to the court in Baixa Manhattan every day from the Brooklyn Sunset Park installation, which also housed the former Cryptocurrency Sam Bankman-Fried and Luigi Mangione, accused of killing a health insurance executive.

Since then, Bankman-Frie has been transferred to a low security arrest in California and has been using his conviction for fraud and 25-year sentence. Mangione declared innocent of the murder accusations.

On Wednesday, a jury considered innocent combs of accusations of sexual trafficking and extortion, sparing him from a possible perpetual imprisonment sentence, but condemned him for two prostitution charges for prostitution that may lead him to prison for several years. He had declared himself innocent of all the accusations.

Comb defense lawyer Marc Agnifilo said at court on Wednesday that Combs was housed in “a very difficult part of the MDC,” where there were fights. His lawyer Alexandra Shapiro said in a November 2024 judicial document that the frequent lockdowns at the installation impaired Combs ability to prepare for the trial.

On Wednesday, Comb lawyers praised the MDC team, which, according to them, facilitated their access to him during the trial.

“Despite the terrible conditions in the MDC, I want to thank the good people who work there,” said Defense Lawyer Teny Geragos to reporters after the verdict.
