Be sure to twist this knob in the fridge. This is how you will reduce electricity bills

Electricity prices in 2025 soared up. That is why many people analyze what could be saved. It is worth taking a fridge under the magnifying glass that uses electricity around the clock. According to the European Commission report and data from the Polish Economic Institute, cooling devices constitute up to 30% of the energy consumed. It’s time to know the way to save on one of them.

As the new scale shows from 2021, Class C uses on average from 160 to 200 kWh per year. In turn, the average power price in the G11 tariff in 2025 is PLN 1.50 per 1 kWh. Therefore, we can calculate that we pay PLN 300 per year. In old models, this amount may even be twice.

However, you can reduce electricity bills thanks to the temperature setting. In this device it should be at most 5 degrees Celsius, and in the freezer -18 degrees Celsius. If we have lower temperatures set, it is worth turning the knob to the higher ones.

All because every degree of temperature reduction increases energy consumption by up to 10%. There is no lower temperature in the fridge than 5 degrees Celsius, because this does not affect the quality of stored food in any way, but only raises bills.

The compressor in the fridge will work intensively if the seals are used or if we do not cling the device door. That is why do not leave the door open for a long timebecause the cold air will start running away, which will cause the influx of heat from the outside.

Let’s also take care of adequate air circulation in the fridgethat it evenly cools and thus does not generate higher bills. Let’s not stuff the products at all costs. Let’s leave the spacing between them. Let’s also remember to clean the ventilation grille from dust so that it does not block the air flow.

As you know, you cannot put hot dishes in the fridge, but not only because of their corruption. Through them, the device must reduce both their temperature and air around. There may even be overheating of the refrigeration system.

Older models that do not have functions require regular defrost. If we do not do this, there will be a difficulty of heat exchange, and this in turn will contribute to more power consumption by up to 15%.

We also recommend turning off the equipment for the time of trips. By applying all these rules, we will notice a lot of savings after a few weeks. This is extremely important, especially now, in hot weather when the devices work in full swing.
