Passengers across Europe are facing great difficulties due to a series of flight cancellations, after air traffic controllers go on strike. According to the French Civil Aviation General, about 270 controllers, representing approximately 26% of the French airport staff, joined the stoppage. Airlines for Europe, the main association of airlines on the continent, estimates that the strike should impact about 1,500 flights, affecting almost 300,000 passengers across Europe.

Air sector workers’ unions in France are claiming better working conditions and hiring more employees. In addition, air traffic controllers have denounced cases of harassment by their superiors, which has exacerbated tensions. The Ministry of Transport of France condemned the strike, expressing concern about the possibility of worsening the situation on Friday, before the beginning of summer school holidays in the country.
