In Indonesia, Juliana’s rescue lasted more than 4 days

The father of the Brazilian, 27, said this Friday (4), that the body of the young woman will be buried. Although the court has authorized the cremation, the family opted for burial for a new autopsy or exhumation. The Brazilian died after falling on a trail in Indonesia. The rescue lasted more than 4 days. “She will be buried. We had asked the judge through the Public Defender’s Office that she could be cremated. But the judge had said not because it is a suspicious death, perhaps, I don’t know if the term is this. She would have to be buried if she had to do an exhumation. This morning, when I woke up, I was surprised by the news that the defender had been able to. Burial, ”said Manoel Marins. The family distrusts the examinations done in the Asian country and states that doubts still remain about the conditions of the death of the advertiser.

“We need answers. Some will only come after this second necropsy exam that was done,” added Manoel. At first, according to the Indonesian report, the cause of death would be internal bleeding caused by trauma during one of the falls suffered by it. “The case is unpreparedness, neglect of human life, negligence and precarious services in that country. A country that depends on tourism to survive should have a better structure to rescue people who went through such a misfortune.” The funeral began around 10am in Niterói, hometown of the victim, at Parque da Colina cemetery. From 12h, only Juliana’s family and friends were on site.

Change in security protocols

The Indonesian government has announced that it will implement reinforcement measures in the security of extreme tourist sights in the country, especially Monte Rinjani. “This morning, we talked to @agam_rinjani and @tyo_survival (volunteers who helped in Juliana’s rescue) and other climbers about Rinjani’s assessment and climbing safety. Everyone agrees: climbing a mountain is not the same as going to the mall. Therefore, we should seriously review the security protocols,” Juli Antoni. Last week, the governor of the province of Nusa Tenggara Western (NTB), where Mount Rinjani is located, had already admitted lack of structure on Mount Rinjani.

In an open letter published to Brazil, the governor stated that, despite the “extraordinary efforts” of the rescue team to try to save the Brazilian and the “extreme climatic conditions” in the place in the period, which made the actions difficult, it is undeniable that the infrastructure in the place contributed to the delay in reaching Juliana. “We recognize that the number of certified vertical rescue professionals follows insufficient and that necessary equipment is still lacking for these missions,” he said after the great repercussion of the case locally. In recent weeks, Brazilians have invaded pages of Indonesian authorities on Instagram demanding measures about Juliana’s case, who generated great commotion. In addition, another crisis in the country’s tourism image was installed shortly thereafter, after at least four people die and 40 were missing in a ferry wreck in Bali.
