The life satisfaction of young people in Slovakia is declining, with Girls show worse results than boys. In a certain group of young people, at the same time, with increasing age, the lack of sleep increases, which negatively affects attention, learning and emotional regulation, there are increasing manifestations of anxiety and depression. This is shown by a preliminary research report on the mental health of children and youth in Slovakia.

TASR informed the Department of Communication and Marketing of the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth (MŠVVAM) SR, which The report in cooperation with the Research Institute of Child Psychology and Pathopsychology presented.

“Children’s mental health and school safety are our long -term priority, which we are already transforming into specific steps today. However, we need comprehensive and reliable data to help children even more accurately. said the Minister of Education Tomáš Drucker (Voice-SD).

At the same time, the report points out that the current state of knowledge of mental health is fragmented. According to the Ministry, research is partial, often focused only on selected problems, without a single research framework and a systematic approach to the acquisition and linking of data. “There is a significant lack of data about vulnerable groups of children – the youngest children in kindergartens, pupils with special needs, children from marginalized Roma communities, pupils from Ukraine or youth in contact with the criminal system,” said the resort.

Publishing a preliminary research report is the first milestone of the national project about mental health. The key activity of the project will be the implementation of representative research, which will enable systematically and long -term monitoring the development of mental health of children, pupils and students in Slovakia in the field of education, cognitive abilities, emotional and social functioning.

Data collection will start already in the fall of this year And the results will serve as a basis for creating recommendations in the field of policy, prevention and intervention directly in schools. The results will be published in a comprehensive report on the image of the mental health of children, pupils and students, which is one of the main outputs of the project.

The project will also include the preparation of the regular data collection system, which should be in the future at three -year intervals and provide quality and scientifically verified information. The project is implemented between 2024 and 2027 and is co -financed by EU funds.
