Power line fall will be at the source of the failure
An extensive energy failure is affecting various regions of the Chéquia this Friday, leaving significant parts of the national electricity without electricity.
According to the CEPS network operator, the incident originated in the fall of a high voltage power line, whose cause remains under investigation. The failure has reached five of the 14 regions of the country, including the capital, Prague, and caused interruptions in rail services in various lines.
Despite the size of the blackout, the Czech authorities guarantee that there is no evidence that a cyber or terrorist attack is.
“So far we have no information that points to a terrorist or cyber attack,” said Interior Minister Vit Rakusan in statements to Czech public television.
The country’s prime minister Petr Fiala classified blackout as an “extraordinary situation” and assured that all resources are mobilized to restore electricity supply.
“We are working intensely to solve the problem,” he wrote on social network X.
According to CEPs, five of the eight affected substations have already worked again, but recovery work continues.
Investigations continue to determine the exact causes of the collapse of the power line.
