The City of Rio de Janeiro estimates that BRICS events, which take place from the end of April to this early July, are expected to move the city’s economy by about $ 70 million.
Brazil presides and hosts this Sunday (6) the beginning of the annual leaders of the group composed of emerging nations.
The events involving the block began in April and mobilize technical meetings and head meetings. Due to the international agenda, the city of Rio ended up decreing optional point on Friday (4) and municipal holiday on Monday (7), for municipal civil servants.
According to Mayor Eduardo Paes, the realization of the summit drives sectors such as tourism, infrastructure and services, generating jobs and development, consolidating itself as a great opportunity for the city of Rio.
The City Hall estimates the movement of approximately 10,000 foreign participants in all events in the city throughout this semester and shows the expectation of spending of representatives of entourages on lodging, transportation, food and other indirect consumptions to the event.
Osmar Lima, Rio’s municipal secretary of Economic Development, assesses that “it has been very relevant for the Rio de Janeiro economy to bring events of the magnitude of BRICS, which places the river at the center of the debate of important global themes and drives our economy, based strongly on services.”
