Social energy tariff begins to apply this Saturday; See who is entitled

From this Saturday (5) the new social tariff of electricity begins. Provided for in the electricity sector reform, the novelty expands exemptions and discounts on the electricity bill to about 60 million Brazilians.

Families registered in CadÚnico (Single Registration for Social Programs), with a monthly income of up to half a person per person and up to 80 kWT (kilowatt-hours) per month

This portion of the public lighting population and the ICMS (Tax of Circulation of Goods and Provision of Services), according to the law corresponding to the State and Municipality.

People with disabilities and the elderly who receive the BPC (continued benefit benefit), as well as indigenous and quilombola families inscribed in CadÚnico and those attended by isolated systems with solar plates and batteries, are also contemplated.

According to Aneel (National Agency of Electric Energy), and will not need to pay for the first 80 kWh consumed each month.

New Discounts

From June 1, 2026 in the amount of the electricity bill to about 55 million people.

This reduction corresponds to the exemption of the payment of CDE (Energy Development Account) in the monthly consumption of up to 120 kWh for cadunic families with monthly income between medium and one minimum wage per person.

The changes are part of Provisional Measure No. 1,300, proposed by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) and conducted by Minister Alexandre Silveira.

Being MP, the text still needs to be approved by the House of Representatives and the Federal Senate within 120 days. If not voted, it loses its validity.
