Talks about Gusttavo Lima about horses and autism at a concert in Acre generates reaction from professionals

During an presentation at Expoacre Juruá, in Cruzeiro do Sul (AC), singer Gusttavo Lima suggested that farmers free their horses so that autistic children could “play” with animals. The speech, despite the good intention, caused concern among professionals in the field of equine therapy.

“Without a technical team, without evaluation, without safety… this can cause irreversible damage,” warned the equine therapist Marcelo Cordeiro, president of the I believe association – Acre.

Equine therapy is a law -recognized practice, focused on treating people with disabilities, and requires a specialized multidisciplinary team. Improvising the use of animals, according to Marcelo, can be dangerous. “We have already attended cases of children with seizures and serious injuries. Any error can cost a life.”

In Acre alone, more than 360 people with disabilities are served weekly in specialized centers – but the line is large and lack of government support. “We have structure, we have the horses, we have the professionals. What is missing is investment. What is left is love,” said the expert.

According to him, the value of a single fee like the singer’s presentation could play up to 8,000 therapy sessions. For Marcelo, real aid is not in makeshift gestures, but in public inclusion policies. The information is from the Correio Online website.
