Stuhralia w Kopalni Soli Wieliczka w pierwszą rocznicę śmierci Jerzego Stuhra

Ours were here in 1983

The place of the inauguration of the Stuhraliów was chosen not by accident. Some of the photos for “Sexmission” were shot in the “Wieliczka” salt mine. It is worth carefully looking at the scenery of the decadence camp and the famous battle for cakes – this is the Margielnik chamber. The queue left the chamber of the Gołuchowski Dworzec, and the transverse August is still painted with white paint and numbers painted with white paint. There is also a hole that served the heroes as a path of escape.

The creators of the comedy returned to Wieliczka in 2009, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of “Sexmission”, to recall this extraordinary underground set from the 1980s. He undoubtedly signed up as an undertaking constituting a great logistic challenge. Filmmakers, actors, statists went to the mine with the shaft of Daniłowicz and the Kani Station, rode a queue to the Gołuchów chambers and Margielnik. The same queue was the props and equipment, which underground, to level III, were lowered with the shaft of St. Kinga. It happened that there were more than 100 people in the Margielnik chamber and its neighborhood! A real element, but the Wielice miners coped perfectly, providing the mine in the history of Polish cinematography.

Inauguration of the festival

Organized by the Unicorn Stuhralia Association and Foundation, they take place on the first anniversary of the artist’s death. The festival was opened together by the wife of Jerzy Stuhr Barbara Stuhr and Mrs. President Jolanta Kwasniewska. The guests were welcomed by the hosts of the historic underground: President of the Board of the Salt Mine “Wieliczka” Tourism Barbara Ptak and the President of the Board of the Salt Mine “Wieliczka” SA Marian Leśny and Marcin Mikos leading evening.

The invitation to a unique film evening in the mine was accepted by, among others Lesser Poland Voivode Jan Krzysztof Klęczar, Wieliczka staroste Roman Ptak, Vice President of the City of Krakow Stanisław Kracik, Iwona Waliczek from the Ministry and Metallurgy Department of the Ministry of Industry, President of the Mining Office Piotr Lithuania, Senator of the Republic of Poland Jerzy Fedorowicz. Among the numerous representatives of the world of culture and art were such excellent artists as Krzysztof Globisz and Feliks Falk. There was also a reliable representative brass band of the “Wieliczka” salt mine, which appeared from the jazz repertoire.

The hero of the festival was honored with long hot applause, which was encouraged by the audience by Marcin Mikos.

Mrs. Barbara Stuhr said that Jerzy did not overestimate the silence in his films

He explained.

He didn’t actually like her, so today we will absolutely not worship him with any minute of silence, but we celebrate with loud applause. As youth says “noise” – so that they hear us in this space -time, in which they are currently located.

The “Solna” edition of the Stuhraliów was marked by “Sexmission”

An unusual screening took place at a depth of 125 MW of Warsaw chamber. The projection of the comedy of all time was preceded by a discussion panel. Juliusz Machulski, Olgierd Łukaszewicz, Maciej Stuhr and Agnieszka Wolańska, the board of the board for the history and culture of the Salt Mine “Wieliczka” SA, was overwhelmed with Maria Malatyńska, sat down on the underground stage.

There is no strength, it must be with a smile and fun

– she pointed out at the very beginning and reminded how important “Sexmission” was for Poles.

It was such a film, he helped people, to get out of martial law. When people laughed, they said that everything would overcome, that everything would be fine. Perhaps this is the eternal value of “sexmission”

– Mrs. Malatyńska emphasized. Jerzy Stuhr used to say: “This movie is for something” and apparently he was going to the Kiev cinema to see smiling people returning home after the session.

Juliusz Machulski remembered the backstage of photos in the mine. He was particularly remembered by an episode with a camera trolley, which did not fit in the elevator. He finally pulled under her. When asked why the Wieliczka mine, he replied that they needed to shoot in the mine, and Wieliczka is “the coolest mine”. Anecdotes were also charmed by the audience by Olgierd Łukaszewicz, or unforgettable, unique, “helping” Albercik. Maciej Stuhr reached his childhood memory, recalling various stories related to “sexmission”. It would not really be enough evening or even night to exhaust the reservoir of memories.

An additional surprise was waiting for the guests of the festival – an exhibition in the Wisła chamber, which was made up of photographs documenting the 25th birthday of “Sexmission” and exhibits inspired by the film. The latter will certainly please tourists: they are perfect for commemorative photos.

Iconic story

“Sexmission” has the status of a cult film. On the one hand, the futuristic post -apocalyptic vision of Juliusz Machulski was a funny story about two men lost in the realities of the matriarchy, and on the other, an uncompromising diagnosis of all totalitarianisms. The censorship of that time cut from the film for 3 minutes, as well as the famous issue: “The direction of the east. There must be some civilization.” Maks Paradys and Albert Starski are like fire and water in terms of temperament. Their contrasting personalities drive a story packed with brilliant dialogues. Apparently, the scenes of finding in the welling mine and the bottle were not in the script. There was also no statement “Our were here” – Jerzy Stuhr invented it.

Professor Stuhr as a guide

Jerzy Stuhr had more than one “Wieliczka episode” in his rich artistic achievements. He played, among others In a guide in a documentary project entitled “Wieliczka – Salt of the Earth.”

I look at you – how fantastically it is to see people proud that they work here – that they devote their lives to this plant. It is rare to be so full of pride that you have something that is unique on a global scale. And I took care of this pride too. The fact that I can become the host of this mine for a moment (for a kind of), showing TV viewers around it is a great honor for me. I feel that I am fulfilling some honorable mission

– Professor Stuhr said in one of the interviews.

Film faces of the mine

The “Wieliczka” salt mine has been an attractive outdoor for filmmakers for years. Apart from Juliusz Machulski, in the underground they “prowled”, among others Andrzej Żuławski (“On the Silver Globe”, 1977), Tadeusz Kijański (“Round Week”), Lech Majewski (“Młyn i Krzyż”, 2011). Salt chambers and pavements “played” in “Krakow monsters” (2022), a series realized for Netflix. The mine hosted artistic productions such as “Umbra” (2014), “Sól” (2013), as well as the Bollywood team full of momentum (“The Rhythm”, 2012). In 2003, Łukasz Barczyk realized the “Hamlet” for the Television Theater. Wieliczka was loud during the first Festival in Cannes (1946). Jarosław Brzozowski presented the black and white “Wieliczka”, which received the first prize in the documentary and educational film category. Agnieszka Wolańska spoke in detail about the film faces of the mine, half -jokingly, half seriously noticed that “Cannes began with the mine.”

It is also worth noting that international screens are eager to look into the underground Wieliczka. The mine was visited by, among others Michael York, Charlotta Rampling, Josh Hartnett, Danny Devito, Jim Carrey, Sophie Skelton, Brothers James and Oliver Phelps, Amitabh Bachchan, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Salt open air

Let’s go back for a moment to the underground plan of “Sexmission”, to excavations that “played” in the film. The decadence camp was located in the Margielnik chamber-an excavation full of momentum exploited in the 19th century using the chamber-pillar method. Margielnik was created in the panel of handwheat, and its contemporary protection required many work, including those made by mountaineering. Miners, among others They introduced anchors into the rock mass and installed wooden housings, thus ensuring stability. Protection of the historic mine is a long and time -consuming process. The works in Margielnik lasted nearly a decade (2012-2021). The mine conducted them with the support of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.

The chamber of Agenora Gołuchowski from the 18th century is also impressive. Indeed, it is the underground queue station, which was a real attraction for the nineteenth-century and pre-war tourists. The intricate pillar-operating housing-the work of mining carpenters-impresses. The Gołuchowski chamber required security work today. The excavation was also restored to the glow of a past era. Margielnik and Gołuchowski are outside the tourist trail.
