In the San Antonio area affected by tidal floods, the balance of victims is increasing. Missing are over 20, meteorologists predict further rain.
At least 24 casualties have already claimed a tidal flood in the area near San Antonio, a KERR representative in Texas announced on Friday late. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.
“At this point, I can confirm that we have about 24 victims,” said Larry Lethia – Sheriff of the Kerr district at a press conference. Previous reports informed about 13 victims of floods that caused strong rainfall.
US President Donald Trump expressed a horror from the situation in Texas on Friday. “It’s terrible, the floods. It’s shocking,” Trump told reporters, while rescuers tried to find stuck inhabitants, including approximately 23 girls from the summer camp who are still missing.
Helicopters also helped
The camp is located along the Guadalupe River, which rose by almost eight meters within 45 minutes. There were approximately 750 camps in the camp on July 4. Hundreds of rescuers and 14 helicopters were deployed in the rescue events, while the Texas National Guard sent rescue teams. The American Coast Guard has also joined the effort, writes AFP.
“The rain has stopped, but we know that another wave is approaching,” the Texas Department of the Texas Ministry of Public Security Freeman Martin warned. In his words, they will hit other rainfall around San Antonio and Austin.
Meteorologists issued a flood warning for the Kerr district and called on residents living near the Guadalupe River to “move to higher places”.
