Faced with the intense cold wave that reaches the state of the service at the Solidarity Shelter located at Pedro II Station of the Metrô, in the Capital, was extended to offer welcome to homeless people. The action, which guarantees a safe place for overnight, feeding and protection against low temperatures, will remain in operation at least until July 10th. The operation is a partnership between the Social Fund, the City of São Paulo and the subway. The shelter operates at night, allowing people to sleep at the scene and stay until 8 am. In addition to overnight, the project offers food, assistance from a multidisciplinary team and, in some cases, allows pets to enter.
The measure seeks to protect the most vulnerable population during the passage of a polar air mass that overthrew temperatures throughout the state. On Saturday morning (6), the state capital recorded 11 ° C, with a maximum forecast of 18 ° C. The intense cold, however, is not restricted to the metropolis. The expected minimums are 7 ° C in Serra da Mantiqueira, 9 ° C in the regions of Campinas and Sorocaba, and up to 13 ° C on the north coast, traditionally warmer area. The forecast is that the cold persists until Sunday.
