Brazilian Air Force used super toucans to redirect aircraft routes this Saturday (5.Jul)
The (Brazilian Air Force) intercepted 2 aircraft and 1 helicopter that flew over the restricted area in Rio on Saturday (5.Jul.2025). The capital of Rio de Janeiro hosts the BRICS summit this Sunday (6.Jul) and on Monday (7.Jul). The aircraft were intercepted by fighters and redirected.
According to the FAB, the interceptions occurred “for the investigation of flight data and authorizations ”. The military reported that the aircraft were oriented to change their routes and accompanied by the super toucans. Read the full FAB grade at the end of this report.
The helicopter was classified as irregular traffic. “Upon seeing the a-29 fighter, it left the restricted area and landed in an isolated place ”, said the FAB. The Air Force reported that an e-9 aircraft remained on flight throughout the operation to ensure “Electronic Surveillance and Airspace Control in the Safety Area ”.
The delimitation of the airspace in Rio was established by, of July 1, 2025. The text determined the safety procedures to be applied by Sisdabra (Brazilian Aerospace Defense System) to ensure the “Brazilian airspace sovereignty and the protection of BRICS participating authorities”.
