Country gave no details about the suggestions of the extremist group; will send representatives to Doha (Qatar), mediator of the conflict, to follow the negotiations
Israel stated on Saturday (5.Jul.2025) that the changes proposed by Hamas for a ceasefire agreement are “unacceptable”Still, the country will send representatives when Qatar on Sunday (6.Jul) to discuss a possible truce. The decision was announced by the prime minister’s office, Benjamin Netanyahu, on social networks, 2 days before the expected meeting between Israeli prime and Donald Trump (Republican) in the White House.
“The changes that Hamas seeks to make in the proposal of Qatar were communicated to us last night and are unacceptable to Israel”said Netanyahu’s office in the statement. The Israeli government has stated, however, that the delegation will travel to Doha to “Continue efforts to ensure the return of our hostages based on the Qatar proposal, to which Israel has already endorsed it.”
Hamas had announced on Friday (4.Jul) supported by the United States. Before, that Israel had agreed with “The necessary conditions to finish” the 60 -day truce.
Netanyahu, however, insists that Hamas must be disarmed, a condition that the group refuses to accept so far.
It is not yet known which changes proposed by Hamas that Israel considers unacceptable, nor specific details about how the parties intend to overcome the divergences in negotiations.
Negotiations are held in Doha, the capital of Qatar, a country that has been acting as a mediator in the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.
After the talks at Qatar, Netanyahu will go to Washington. The premie will meet with Trump on Monday (7.Jul). The Israeli military operation in Gaza continues to cause a humanitarian crisis, with internal displacement of the entire local population.
The events that triggered this phase of the conflict took place on October 7, 2023. Hamas militants held an attack south of Israel that resulted in the death of approximately 1,200 people and the kidnapping of 251, according to Israeli data.
Of the 251 hostages captured by Hamas in October 2023, it is believed that only 20 remain alive today. The Gaza Ministry of Health has more than 57,000 Palestinians killed as a result of the Israeli military offensive initiated after the attacks.
