On Friday evening he started the 59th International Film Festival Karlovy Vary (IFF KV), which brought foreign stars to the West Bohemian spa town and new, so far invited films. TASR informs about this according to the report of Czech Television.

The event took place for the first time without its long -time President Jiří Bartoškathat died in May. To the celebrities that pass the red carpet, They included Michael Douglas, Stellan Skarsgard or Dakota Johnson. The Crystal Globe as the main prize of the festival had a chance to win two home films.

Right at the beginning, two foreign guests came to the Vary. The President of the Si Festival Award The Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps took over at the opening ceremony. The same statue belongs to American actor Petr Sarsgaard. He introduced the drama “Shattered Glass” (2003), which brought him a nomination for the Golden Globe.

This year’s Festival President Award also belongs to American Dakote Johnson, a successor to acting tradition spread over several generationsrepresented by her mother Melanie Griffith. The worldwide popularity of the Karlovyard hostess brought the adaptation of the novel “Fifty Shades of Gray” (2015).

After almost three decades, Oscar -winning actor Michael Douglas returned to the Vary. In his presence, Milos Forman’s film was screened “Flew Over Kukucik’s Nest” (1975) in the digitally restored version. This year the drama celebrates half a century from the premiere and Douglas was one of its producers.

Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgard arrived at the end of the film show. In addition to taking over the Crystal Globe for his extraordinary artistic contribution to world cinematography, he presented the comedy film “Emotional value” (2025), with which Norwegian director Joachim Trier won the Grand Prix at the Cannes Festival.

Skarsgard was not the guest of the KV IF for the first time, he accepted the invitation in 2002. Jiří Brožek, the holder of nine Czech lions, was awarded for his contribution to Czech cinematography. He recalled his art with the projection of the film “Death of Beautiful Roe Deer” (1986).
