It looked like it would be another easy victory for Real Madrid. Still in the first half of the duel against Borussia Dortmund, for the quarterfinals of the Club World Cup, on Saturday (5), the Spanish team opened 2-0. In the final stage, however, a sequence of goals already rekindled the dispute and ended up making the goalkeeper Courtois one of the heroes of the Spanish classification.
The duel ended with 3-2 for the club from Madrid. Gonzalo García and Fran García, both in the early stage, scored the first goals at Metlife Stadium.
After the break, Beier cashed for the German team on 47 minutes. Two minutes later, Mbappé expanded to Real, with his first goal in the World Cup. At 54 minutes, on a penalty, Guirassy made the second of Dortmund and helped his team go to all or nothing. In the last move of the game, Sabitzer received in the area and finished strong, but Courtois defended and secured the Madrid victory.
Following the competition, the Spanish team will face Paris Saint-Germain-former Mbappé’s time-which also sealed their semifinal classification on Saturday, dramatically, against Bayern Munich. The French team finished the match with two less players, but managed to win 2-0.
The confrontation between Real and PSG, scheduled for next Wednesday (9), at 16h (Brasilia), again at Metlife Stadium, will be the first reunion of Kylian Mbappé with his former equpe.
The French star, however, does not yet know if it will be a starter. In front of Dortmund, it only entered the final stage, just as it had already occurred in the duel against Juventus, for the round of 16. The striker lost the first phase of the World Cup due to acute gastroenteritis.
In his absence, Gonzalo García won the starting place in Real’s attack and has been widely praised by the fans – the player reached his fourth goal in the tournament and now divides the artillery of the competition with Argentine Di María and Brazilian Marcos Leonardo, both eliminated from the World Cup along with Benfica and Al Hilal, respectively.
If Mbappé is not yet in full physical condition to resume the position, shirt 30 can be kept for the duel against PSG.
Whether on the field or in the reserve bench, it will be the first time the French star will participate in a match against the club that defended between 2017 and 2024, before transferring to Real.
