The Syrian Ministry of Emergency Situations and Candustiffs said that hundreds of thousands of trees burned in 28 locations with an estimated area of approximately 10,000 hectares.
About 80 teams, including civil protection, fights fires at high temperatures and strong winds. Local organizations and residents also provide assistance. Firefighters from neighboring Jordan and Turkey were also involved in the extinguishing.
Evacuated villages
Fires also engulfed agricultural land and got to the nearby border. Some villages were evacuated.
Syria is still recovering from the civil war, which lasted almost 14 years and ended last December by depicting the long -time dictator Bashar Assad.
As a result of climate change, the country is plagued by increasingly intense drought, heat waves and lack of rainfall. According to the UN Nutrition and Agriculture (FAO), Syria has not experienced such poor climatic conditions over the past 60 years.
