The political scientist MARCO ANTONIO TEIXEIRAprofessor at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), spoke about the current situation of the federal government during participation in the program WW Especialfrom CNN. According to him, the government entered a “bubble” and lost its connection with Brazilian society, which has weakened its ability to convince voters out of its base, now reduced.
The FGV professor suggests a challenging scenario for the government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), who will need to rethink his communication and political articulation strategies to regain the population’s confidence and strengthen their governance.
Teixeira argues that Brazilians’ perception and yearnings about the economy are distant from what Planalto publicly verbalizes. “The perception that social groups today have from the economy, from what they want, what they want, is very far from what the government publicly verbalizes,” he said.
Government isolation and lack of dialogue
The political scientist highlighted the isolation of the government and its difficulty in establishing an effective dialogue with sectors beyond its support base. “What we clearly observe is a very large isolation from the government, a very large ability to talk beyond its base that is reduced today,” explained Teixeira.
He also warned of the risks of a possible government attempt to reprint past political scenarios, such as 2013. “If the government is wanting to reissue 2013, the scenario is also another and the shot can turn against the government itself as well,” he warned.
Strengthening of Congress
Teixeira also addressed the relationship between the executive and the legislature, noting that, despite the wear and tear of congress, it feels strengthened to face the government.
“As much as Congress is worn out and even with the worse image with some decisions it has been making, Congress feels quite strengthened to be able to face the government,” he said.
