The President of the Republic, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), defended during a meeting of the BRICS Summit on Sunday (06) that artificial intelligence cannot be a privilege of few countries, not even a manipulation instrument by billionaires.
“The development of artificial intelligence cannot become a privilege of few countries, or an instrument of manipulation in the hands of millionaires. Nor is it possible to progress without the participation of the private sector and civil society organizations,” he said during the event that takes place in Rio de Janeiro until next Monday (07).
The president’s speech goes in the same line as one, in which they ask for an AI governance that can “mitigate potential risks” and “meet the needs of all countries, including the global south.”
“Artificial intelligence represents a historical opportunity to boost development towards a more prosperous future. To achieve this goal, we emphasize that AI global governance should mitigate potential risks and meet the needs of all countries, including the global south,” says an excerpt from the statement obtained by CNN.
For Lula, the text sends a “clear and unambiguous message”:
“New technologies must work within a model of fair, inclusive and equitable governance”
