The house of, historical property in Diamantina (MG) where the president of Brazil from 1956 to 1961 has spent childhood and adolescence, completes four decades as a museum and faces conservation problems.

Located at the center of The Space gathers much of the library that belonged to the Minas Gerais politician, as well as photos, manuscripts and personal items, such as the doctor’s apron, a profession he exercised from the 1920s to the 1940s.

The entity that manages the house raises from R $ 18 thousand to R $ 20 thousand per month, according to Serafim. There are only two sources of income: ticket sales – entry costs $ 20, and students from Diamantina do not pay – and donations, especially two individuals who donate regularly.
The money obtained is used to pay the three employees, in addition to taxes, according to the director. There is no budget for repair works. “We come to a point that no longer gives,” laments Serafim, about to turn 90.
