Katia Aveiro defends Cristiano Ronaldo after criticism and explains the decision

Katia Aveiro reacted to criticism of the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo in the funeral of Diogo Jota and André Silva. The sister of the national team captain appealed to social networks in writing and also on video to justify her brother’s decision and shared a moving personal account of her father’s funeral in 2005.

“When my father died, besides the pain of loss, we had to deal with the flood of cameras and onlookers in the cemetery. With no respect,” Katia wrote, revealing that at the time there was a total destruction on the spot: “They climbed where they were panting them. They destroyed camppas, deposits. We could only get out of the chapel at the time of burial, such was the turmoil.”

Katia stressed that at times like this, empathy should speak louder: “About pain, family and real support, you (trash and curious journalism) will never know what it means until they go through it.”

Katia did not hide frustration with speculation around Ronaldo’s absence, reinforcing that whoever criticizes will be blocked: “Fanaticism, criticism of nothing.”

The sister of CR7 also shared a reflection by writer Pedro Chagas Freitas, who defended the decision of the Portuguese star: “If it came, it would be a circus of even greater pain. A funeral is not a spectacle. Pain is not a spectacle. More: it is not going to a funeral that measures the size of what hurts me.”

According to some media of social communication, Ronaldo chose not to be present in Gondomar so as not to turn an intimate moment of pain into a media event due to the dozens of media that were in place.

“Respecting the pain is also respecting each other’s choices to bear it,” said Katia, in a message of empathy and respect in one of the most painful moments in the recent history of Portuguese football.
