Lion kept illegally as a pet leaps a wall and attacks mother and children in Pakistan

A lion kept as a pet attacked a woman and two children in the city of Lahore, the second largest in Pakistan, according to local police on Thursday, July 3.

The incident was recorded by video surveillance chambers on the 2nd. In the images, it is possible to see the feline to jump a wall to the public road, chasing a woman, who is eventually overthrown. Then the animal also advances over two children nearby.

According to the authorities, the woman was injured and, along with the two children, was transported to the hospital. The three victims are in a stable condition.

The lion was captured by the Department of Wildlife and legal proceedings have already been initiated against the owners of the animal. In Pakistan, it is relatively common for people with high incomes to keep wild felines such as domestic animals, and the existence of small private zoos and the public display of these animals is often.

In 2017, police stopped a man in Karachi for taking his pet lion to walk the streets at night.

More recently, on Saturday, July 5, the government of Punjab province announced the launch of an operation against illegal lions possession under the direct guidance of chief minister Maryam Nawaz.
