The statements of what occurred during the opening of the plenary session “Environment, COP 30 and Global Health”, the last meeting of the BRICS Summit, the group of countries that brings together the main emerging economies of the world, such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The meeting takes place at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro. It is expected that, after the meeting, two resolutions on the subject of the session be published. At 1 pm, Lula should give a press conference.

The president also stated that global warming occurs at a faster than expected pace and stressed that, a decade after Paris agreement, resources are lacking for fair transition. “Developing countries will be more impacted by (environmental) damage,” Lula said, arguing that it is unavoidable to promote the fair transition to the end of the use of fossil fuels.
In speaking about the eradication of socially determined diseases, Lula said that if diseases reached rich countries, “they would have been eradicated.” To combat them, the petista warned of the need for “tax space”.
“In Brazil and worldwide, income, schooling, gender and place of birth determine who gets sick and who dies. Many of the diseases that kill thousands in our countries, such as Chagas and Cholera, would have been eradicated if they hit Ods 3 (health and well-being) requires fiscal space.”

Lula stated that background forests forever (TFFF), which will be released at COP 30, will remunerate the ecosystem services provided to the planet.

Lula mentioned that by 2024, the world’s 65 largest banks pledged to grant US $ 869 billion to the fossil fuel sector. “Sustainable taxonomies and tight and inclusive carbon counting units can attract green and fair productive investments,” said Lula.
The president also said that the BRICS climate finance state declaration, which will be adopted today, will present the necessary sources and alternative models for climate financing.
