Iranian President Masoud Pezekijan said Israel, who waged a 12-day war with Iran in June, tried to kill him. Pezekijan said in an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson published on Monday, TASR writes according to the AFP report.
“Yes, they tried to do it … But they failed,” the Iranian president answered the question of whether he thought Israel was trying to kill him. “It wasn’t the United States who was behind the attempt to take my life. It was Israel … They tried to bomb the area where we had negotiations,” Peziskijan explained.
Israeli attacks
The attempt to kill the Iranian head of state was said to have occurred in June during the war with Israel, which attacked the Islamic Republic on 13 June. More than 900 people, including leading nuclear scientists and military officials, died in Israeli attacks. According to the local authorities, Iranian strikes in Israel claimed 28 victims.
The Israeli-Iranian war broke out just two days before the planned sixth round of interviews between Iran’s delegations and the United States about Tehran nuclear program.
Restoring nuclear talks
In addition to Israel, the United States also attacked the Iranian nuclear facilities during the war. In an interview with Carlson, Pezekijan said that Iran has no problem restoring nuclear talks with Washington, provided confidence is restored between the two countries.
“We see no problem in returning to negotiations,” said President Iran, who added that there is a condition to restart the interviews. “How can we believe the United States again? We have returned to the negotiations, how then can we be sure that during the next negotiations they will not allow the Israeli regime to attack us?” Pezekiján asked.
Challenge for the US
He also stated that US President Donald Trump must choose whether to support peace in the Middle East or allow Israel to drag the United States to war with Iran, quotes the Russian agency TASS.
