In order to reduce the waiting line for surgical procedures and ensure more agile care to the population, the State Department of Health (Sesacre), in partnership with the Governador Flaviano Melo Hospital Foundation (Fundhacre), took on July 3, 4 and 5, the Opera Acre program to the municipality of Brasileia. The surgeries were performed at the Alto Acre Regional Hospital, focusing on orthopedic procedures.
The initiative seeks to decentralize care, bringing surgeries to the municipalities of the interior, avoiding the displacement of patients to the capital. In this edition, 32 patients benefited from meniscus and anterior cruciate ligament surgeries (LCA) in the Alto Acre Regional.
Among those attended is José Roberto Amorim, 24, who suffered an injury during a basketball match. “I broke the ligament during a game. The expectation for recovery is very high, especially for safety reasons. Sometimes I have the feeling that I am walking in false. This generates insecurity in my daily life, because simple situations, such as hurrying when I am in a hurry, which are normal for most people, for me became a risk,” he says.

Patient Débora Silva, 32, resident of Assis Brasil, highlighted the importance of performing the procedure in a unit closer to home. “I’m very happy. I’m from Assis Brasil, so, for me, going to Rio Branco was a little more complicated, because I don’t have relatives there. Thank God, with surgery being done here in Brasileia, I have a better support, family members around and I’m much closer to home,” he says.
Deborah also emphasizes her expectation of resumption of sports and professional activities. “I’m an athlete, but at the moment I’m standing because of the injury, my expectation is to go back to the courts in the future, keep playing futsal and football, so I depend on having a good, healthy knee, to do my jobs. I’m sure that soon I will go through this recovery process and that it will be all right.”
Orthopedist doctor Aluísio Júnior, who is part of the surgery team, emphasized the positive impacts of the task force on patients’ health. “We are performing several ligament and meniscal repair surgeries, contributing to reducing the waiting line for these procedures in our state. The goal is to return quality of life to the population, allowing people to return to their routine and that our athletes can resume their physical activities safely,” he concludes.

In addition to the task force in the orthopedics specialty in Brasileia, the State Government also promoted joint efforts in other municipalities this week, resulting in 74 people served in the regional health. The surgeries occurred in Cruzeiro do Sul, at the Juruá Women’s and Child Hospital, focusing on gynecology. In Rio Branco, at the Governador Flaviano Melo Hospital Foundation with gynecological, vascular and striking surgeries. In addition to Senator Guiomard, at Ary Rodrigues Hospital, who treated patients with adult and pediatric general surgeries.
Opera Acre
Opera Acre is part of the National Program for Reduction of Elective Surgery, instituted by the Ministry of Health. In the state, the initiative guarantees free access to expected procedures in the line of the Unified Health System (SUS).
From January to June 2025, the program has already performed 6,682 elective surgeries in the state, benefiting the population and significantly reducing the demand for surgical care in SUS.
The actions of Opera Acre include various medical specialties, such as gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, urology, general and vascular surgery. The proposal is to offer resolution, dignity and access to health to patients who, in many cases, had been waiting for years for the procedures.
Sesacre’s expectation is to maintain the pace of joint efforts and surgeries in the second half of 2025, consolidating Opera Acre as one of the main strategies for strengthening SUS in the state. The program also represents an advance in the regionalization and decentralization of services, expanding the reach of public health actions beyond the capital.
