Real Atunara, one of the only two companies in Portugal dedicated to the capture and aquaculture of Tuna-Rabilho, and responsible for the Blest brand, was the subject of a serious illegal fishing action with its “barrel frame”, on the coast of Tavira.

According to the company’s statement, “this criminal practice puts it at risk not only the current fishing campaign, but also the sustainability and safety of artisanal fishing”.

The company recalls that tuna-rabilho is a protected species, with rigorously defined capture quotas by international entities. Your fishing can only be performed by licensed operators. Real Atunara stresses that “clandestine fishing and marketing of this species are crimes, with legal implications for both fishing and those who buy or resell outside authorized channels”.

Miguel Socorro, CEO of, classifies the incident as “a deliberate intrusion, motivated by the high commercial value of tuna-rabilho”, adding that “it is an attack on the local economy, the legality and the maritime inheritance that our company preserves”.

The company also confirms that “circulating in social networks photographic and video records that document this illegal activity, which will facilitate the performance of the authorities and the identification of those responsible”.
