It was with scale and diversity that the founder and CEO of Sheerme, the Portuguese startup that works in the area of beauty and well-being digitizing the traditional marking and reserve services, built his career. Miguel Alves Ribeiro was a translator, leader of sales and marketing teams and key to the expansion and business development of technological companies. Everything that built, in Portugal and abroad, guarantees, helped shape “the professional, the entrepreneur, the country” that is today. And, more than that, it has given it the conviction that no one is anything alone, not even in the place of CEO of a company.
Miguel Alves Ribeiro argues that “there can be only one leader”. And explains: “When we are doing financing rounds, for example, 90% of my time is dedicated to it. If I am not the company is drifting? With a team of three founders, the Sheering has what Miguel calls “CEO Team, the CEO’s team.” It is a leadership team, consisting of people from various areas, with autonomy to decide and think strategically the business.
“ANDthe team that helps us take the culture forward, to manage the company, to make decisions, ”he explains, adding that“ the tinned decision is discussed among everyone and it is logical that the founders always weigh a little more in the decision, but we want to know the perspective of others, to hear them, because we may be less conditional that we are, ”besides,” diversity makes all the difference? “
Miguel Alves Ribeiro passed PT, Oni and Best Tables, in various markets, from Europe to South America. But it was in India that he found his most growth experience. He was invited to join the Zomato Restaurant Discovery Platform, as Vice President of Sales, from Nova Delhi, India. “ANDIt is a completely different culture, a way of working and people completely different from what was used to, ”he explains, noting that“ they were suspicious and I had to gain their trust, being the only foreigner within the company ”.
And the now SHEERME CEO notice that “it is easier to lead and inspire people when they recognize us because we have impact on the sector.” In his case, “he was known in Portugal and in the markets where he was, but in other countries it was just one more. It implied my ego and rebuild everything again, my professional identity,” he says.
He returned to Portugal to lead Zomato’s launch in the domestic market as director-general, and its expansion in Europe and South America. The taste for the transformation of traditional sectors through technology made it in 2021 to launch its own project, SHEERME, a platform that aims to digitize customer management of traditional beauty salons and gyms. Since its foundation has been angry but it still has a fierce competition from the old technique of “paper and pen.”
