Bioceanic railroad should be the greatest economic opportunity in Acre's history, says Deputy

During this Tuesday (8) session at the Acre Legislative Assembly (Aleac), Deputy Edvaldo Magalhães (PCdoB) celebrated the formalization of a cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Transport of Brazil and the state railway. The agreement aims to deepen the feasibility studies for the Bioceanic Railroad, a project that can transform the state’s economy and infrastructure, overcoming historical transport challenges.

For the parliamentarian, the Bioceanic railroad is not only an old aspiration, but a strategic response to current geopolitical dynamics. In a scenario of growing competition between powers such as the United States and China, the deputy emphasized that the search for new commercial routes becomes imperative. “This railroad will go through our state, not because we believe it, but because the world dispute requires this. The Panama Canal has become the target of commercial dispute, and the most viable alternative is the Bioceanic corridor passing through Acre,” said Magalhães.

The idea of an interooceanic connection is not recent. Edvaldo Magalhães recalled that, in the early 2000s, a first cooperation agreement was signed between then -President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Peru’s president Alan García, with the same goal. Recent advances, such as the construction of the Porto Porto Portu, with investments of over $ 3.5 billion, stress that the project is on the way to materialize. “This port only makes sense if it is connected with the railroad. It is a structure designed to receive ores, commodities and industrialized products in megainvestments that diminish within 12 days the transportation time of goods to Asia,” he explained.

Given this perspective, the deputy reinforced the urgent need for Acre to prepare to maximize the benefits of the railroad. He defended the resumption of industrial policies and the strengthening of the Export Processing Zone (SPA) in Rio Branco.

“ZPE do Ceará was only made possible when they built a port. Here, we already have the port in operation, what is missing is to ensure the cheapest transportation with the railroad. The old and combative ZPE, which I helped customs when I was secretary of industry, can finally fulfill its vocation,” said Magalhães.

Concluding his speech, Edvaldo Magalhães stressed that Acre is facing a historic opportunity to fully integrate into the global market. He made an appeal for the Legislative Assembly and the state government to be up to the challenge. “Even with the government’s misconduct, if there is a political understanding of this house, this may be the greatest opportunity of our generation,” said the deputy.
