The investigation into the accident that killed Liverpool Diogo Jota’s Portuguese striker in Spain points out that the tragedy occurred by “a speeding” of the vehicle that the athlete was driving, the local Civil Guard said on Tuesday.
The conclusion came from the analysis of the marked by the vehicle – a Lamborghini, according to Portuguese newspapers – on the track, pointed out the corporation in a message to journalists. Investigations are still ongoing in search of details.
“All evidence taken so far indicates that the driver of the damaged vehicle was Diogo Jota,” said the guard. He traveled with his younger brother, André, player of a Portuguese second division team.
The two died from the 2nd to July 3, in an accident that occurred in a highway from Northwest Spain, when the car where they were left the track and caught fire. The deaths shook the world of football.

Jota was 28 years old and married on June 22 with her partner and mother of her three children. He was on his way to Santander in northern Spain.
According to the media, his intention was to have a ferry there for England because he had been advised against a plane due to a recent operation in a lung.
Diogo Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 in a transaction valued at 49 million euros (R $ 313 million in the current price) after several seasons at Wolverhampton. Since then, he has played a central role in Reds accumulated hits, including the title of England champion last season.
