Licensed federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) reacted on Monday (7) to the publication of US President Donald Trump, who came out in defense of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), currently defendant in the Supreme Court (STF) for attempted coup. On his social networks, Eduardo stated that Trump’s demonstration “will not be the only news” from the US.

“A lot of people calling me, but we can’t spend more details about it. What I can say is that this will not be the only news from the US at this time,” wrote Eduardo, who has been in the United States since March. “I take the opportunity to thank everyone who strives in this battle. Support Donald Trump’s note in the social truth and other networks.” The statement came hours after Trump claimed on his social network that Bolsonaro is the target of a “witch hunt.”

The Republican leader criticized court proceedings against the former Brazilian president, calling them political persecution. According to Trump, Bolsonaro’s trial should take place “at the polls”, not in the courts. “I’ve been following, just like the whole world, while they come after him day after day, night after night, month after month, year, year,” said Trump. “He is not guilty of all, except for fighting the people.” The former president of the United States still promised attention to the case: “I will be very closely observing witch hunt against Jair Bolsonaro, his family and thousands of his supporters.”

Jair Bolsonaro also commented on Trump’s speech. To journalist Kennedy Alencar’s blog, the former president said the American is the “largest head of state in the world” and that there has always been mutual sympathy between the two. Then, through social networks, Bolsonaro again criticized the processes conducted by the Supreme Court: “It is a legal aberration (Lawfare), clear political persecution, already perceived by everyone in common sense,” he said. The former president had public commitments canceled for July after absolute rest medical advice.

Jair Bolsonaro became a defendant after the First Class of the Supreme Court unanimously accepted the report of the Attorney General’s Office that accuses him of direct involvement in articulations to abolish the Democratic Rule of Law. The accusations include incitement to the coup d’état and other crimes related to undemocratic acts of 8 January 2023. Penas added may exceed thirty years in prison.

Trump’s statement rekindled the tension between the Brazilian government and the international conservative wing, with Eduardo Bolsonaro promising articulations from the US in the coming days.
