Federal Government recognizes emergency in 11 cities of RS after thunderstorms

The Ministry of Integration and Regional Development recognized on Monday (7) the emergency situation in 11 municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul affected by the heavy rains of June.

The measure, published in the Federal Official Gazette, includes Acute, Faxinal do Soturno, General Câmara, Itaara, Liberato Salzano, Manoel Viana, Pinheiro Machado, Santa Maria, Sao Joao do Polêsine, South Trinity and Santa Cruz do Sul.

With federal recognition, the municipalities of these municipalities are able to request resources for response and humanitarian assistance actions. This includes the purchase of basic baskets, drinking water, hygiene and cleaning kits, volunteers and workers’ meals, as well as other emergency civil defense actions.

According to the Ministry, Rio Grande do Sul already has 358 decrees in force of federal recognition of emergency situation or state of public calamity. Of these, 309 are motivated by drought, 36 by heavy rain, six by windstorms, three by hail, three per flood and one by flood.

Resource requests must be made through the Integrated Disaster Information System (S2ID). After technical analysis of the National Civil Defense, the approved work plans result in a new ordinance authorizing the transfers.
