A fire that broke out near Marseilles in the south led to the interruption of Marseille International Airport functions, a spokesman for his administration said.
“Under the influence of Mistral wind, the fire is moving towards the southern and northern neighborhoods of Marseilles,” the fire brigade said, stressing that the fire, which broke out shortly before 11am, was caused by a vehicle fire.
“Things are far from being controlled,” with two settlements being evacuated in view of the flames that were increasingly approaching.
In total, 7,000 acres have been burned, and more than 10 buildings have been damaged, a local official told reporters.
The fire is approaching Marseilles, with residents called upon to stay in their homes, following a warning message to residents to follow the security instructions.
In particular, the Prefecture of the Provence-Alps-Kyani Coast, called on the residents of the 16th District to “stay in their homes” for security reasons. “To prevent the smoke from entering your home, close the shutters and doors and place wet sails in the gaps. Leave access to your home for emergency services free and stay away from the streets. “
