Matt Cameron is no longer the Pearl Jam drummer. The band’s announcement was made in an official statement together. “After 27 years fantastic, I took my last steps on the drums of the powerful Pearl Jam,” wrote the 62 -year -old musician, who had been part of the band since 1998.
The drummer also took the opportunity to thank the other members of Pearl Jam and demonstrate his respect to his colleagues. “A lot of love and respect for Jeff, Ed, Mike and Stone for inviting me to the band in 1998 and for giving me the opportunity of a life, full of friendships, artistic talent, challenges and laughter,” he wrote.
He still left a message for the fans, implying that he will not retire from the stage with the departure of Pearl Jam. “I am forever grateful to the team, the technical team and fans around the world. It has been an amazing journey. There is more to come. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Pearl Jam also released a statement along with the drummer’s words, citing the groups that Matt was part of before joining Pearl Jam, including Soundgarden, and implying that the exit was friendly.
“From one of our first musical heroes in the skilyard bands and the powerful Soundgarden, playing in our first demos in 1990, Matt Cameron has been a singular and truly powerful musician and drummer. He boosted the last 27 years of live shows and studio recordings of Pearl Jam. It was a deeply important chapter for our group and we always miss him. It will be our friend forever in art and music. We love you, Matt. ”
The band’s last show with Matt Cameron took place on May 18, part of the Dark Matter tour, namesake of the band’s twentieth second album. Pearl Jam has been active since 1990 and has had six different drummers, being Matt which spent the most time in the group.
