The German aircraft Missie Aspides became the aim of the Chinese army’s laser attack in the Red Sea region. Berlin described the incident unacceptable and summoned the Chinese ambassador.

The German Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the Chinese army was aimed at laser at one of the German aircraft on the mission of the European Union (EU) aspides around the Red Sea. According to Reuters and AFP reports, TASR reports.

“The threatening of German staff and the disruption of the operation is completely unacceptable,” the ministry wrote on the social network X. To clarify the incident, he will have the Chinese ambassador summoned. After the incident, the aircraft ended its mission prematurely and returned to the air base in Djibutia.

They reportedly targeted the German aircraft “without any reason and without prior contact during a routine operation”. “The Chinese vessel risked that there would be a threat to (German) staff and equipment,” the German Defense Ministry said. It is not yet clear what system the laser has been part of.

Immediately after the incident, the European Commission (EC), the Chinese Foreign Ministry, or the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Berlin, did not respond to Reuters questions.

Aspides is part of the joint security and defense policy of the European Union and aim to protect maritime transport and safety, especially commercial ships in the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Persian.
