US President Donald Trump will attend the Club World Cup final on Sunday (13) in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The presence of the Republican was announced by the Republican in contact with journalists.
“I will go to the game,” said Trump.
Trump’s departure confirmation to the tournament’s decision occurs a day after FIFA (International Football Federation) announced the opening of an entity’s office on Trump Tower in New York.
The expanded club tournament has been widely seen as an essay for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly headquartered by the United States, Canada and Mexico, with a record of 48 participating national teams.
The Club World Cup final at Metlife Stadium will be a preview of next year’s championship match, with the NFL New York Jets and Giants Times House also hosting the 2026 final.
“We received great support from the government and the president with the White House task force for the FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA World Cup next year,” Infantino said.
Trump has not avoided the spotlight of major sporting events during his second term, becoming the first acting president to attend a Super Bowl in February, and in May announcing Washington as headquarters of the 2027 NFL draft directly from the Oval Hall.
However, its repression of immigration and the ban on 12 countries generated concerns before the 2026 World Cup, even when Infantino offered guarantees that the world will be welcome in the US for the Global Event.
A memorandum obtained by Reuters last month showed that the Trump administration was considering significantly expanding their travel restrictions, potentially prohibiting citizens from 36 additional countries from entering the US.
