The doll dressed in the shades of blue has a glucose surveillance device (CGM) covered with a medical pink heart -shaped film. In the middle she has a pink cell phone with CGM application to monitor her blood sugar levels during the day. She also wears a insulin pump that provides her with automated dosage of insulin depending on the needs while holding a bag for the essentials, such as snacks, which may be needed when out.
‘Children see themselves in the dolls they love’
“Barbie helps to shape children’s early perceptions of the world and, by reflecting medical diseases such as type 1 diabetes, we ensure that more children can see themselves in the stories they imagine and the dolls they love,” said Christa Berger (Krista Berger) and Krista Berger adding that the new Barbie is “an important step in our commitment to participation and representation”.
