The American embassy in Brazil said on Wednesday (9) that the former president and his family are partners and returned to speak of political persecution against him.
With this, the diplomatic mission joined the demonstrations of the president himself, who in the second (7) said that Bolsonaro is the victim of a “witch hunt.”
“Jair Bolsonaro and his family have been strong US partners. Political persecution against him, his family and his supporters is shameful and disrespects Brazil’s democratic traditions. We reinforced President Trump’s statement. We are closely following the situation,” the embassy said. “We do not comment on the next state department actions regarding specific cases.”
On Monday, Trump stated that Brazil is doing a “horrible thing” in the treatment given to Bolsonaro, the target of the (Supreme Court) in the trial of the coup plot.
“I’ve been watching, just like the world, while they do nothing but chasing it, day after day, night after night, month after month, year year. He is not guilty of anything except for fought for the people,” Trump said in a post at Truth Social.
Trump’s statement generated a reaction of. In a statement, still on Monday, the petista said he did not accept interference in Brazil’s internal policies. “The defense of democracy in Brazil is a topic that competes for Brazilians. We are a sovereign country.”
