Man invades airport and dies when sucked by plane engine in Italy

SAO PAULO, SP (UOL/FOLHAPRESS)-A man died on Tuesday (8) after being sucked by the engine on one of the tracks at Il Caravaggio International Airport in Bergamo, Italy.

Man was not a passenger or airport employee. People who work at the scene told the Corriere Della newspaper Sera that he would have violated a security door from the airport to break into the taxiing track.

Airbus A319 of the Volotea airline was pushback as the individual approached. The maneuver consists of pulling the aircraft backwards to get it out of the parking position. Following, the plane would perform the procedures to take off towards Asturias airport in Spain.

Police noted movement, but failed to stop the invader, according to ANSA. Until the publication of this text, the Bergamo police had not publicly pronounced.

Pouses and takeoffs were suspended for almost two hours in Il Caravaggio, Italy’s third busiest airport. The track was closed shortly after the incident, around 10:20 am (5:20 am in Brasilia), and reopened at noon (7h).

Airport administrator reported in a statement that there was an “inconvenient” on the taxi -track. Also according to the statement, the “causes are being investigated by the authorities.”
