Polska Grupa Zbrojniowa (PGZ) presented the concept of building three new ammunition factories. Informed on Wednesday, Minister of Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference with Zbrojovka representatives. The project envisages the modernization of existing facilities and the construction of new production lines. The main emphasis is placed on the increase in the production of artillery ammunition. Factories focus on the production of projectiles, artillery ammunition and large -caliber ammunition
The first factory will ensure the production of projectiles according to current technologies in order to increase their production to 100,000 units per year. The second will focus on new generations of artillery ammunition with a capacity of up to 60,000 per year, including the types of crab, crab-2 and K9. The third factory will be the center for the development and production of new types of fillings for large -caliber ammunition.
Production facilities will continue to produce other types of large -caliber ammunition, including a 120 mm caliber. The aim is that by 2028, all 155 mm quadri of 155 mm ammunition races reach 150,000 to 180,000 units per year.
The state will contribute EUR 2.4 billion (EUR 566 million) to financing the project. There are also other projects for the production of high -energy explosives and dust.
Current production of small -calibrum ammunition for the army’s needs according to the Minister does not suffice
“The change of the geopolitical situation has shown not only us but also our allies that we need to quickly increase the capacity for the production of an ammunition of 155 mm,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. He stressed that the increase in ammunition production is a priority for the country’s safety.
“We have achieved a situation in which we produce small -calibrum ammunition in a volume of 250 million a year, which is five times more than a few months ago,” the minister said. However, this production does not suffice for the needs of the Polish army, he stressed.
GOLOTA: Because of our location we are also responsible for the safety of our neighbors
According to State Secretary of the Ministry of State Assets Konrad Golota, the project is an important step towards strengthening the autonomy and the development of the Polish defense industry. “We are building security, development and competences. These are three priorities to be accompanied by the Polish state armament industry,” he said.
“Because of our location, we are also responsible for the safety of our neighbors,” Golota said, saying that Poland’s efforts are the integration of the Allies in this area.
According to PGZ, the current model of three factories will provide a diversified, safe and autonomous production of ammunition for the Polish army. “We must be one of the largest ammunition producers in Europe and the world,” the Polish Defense Minister concluded.
